When painting objects, we normally color their exterior, using spray paints, acrylics and more. But what if we try to expose the colors that the material itself has to offer? This project re-examines the meaning of coloring, by revealing the colors that already exist within the material and exploring how this new technique can be executed with control.

 

The project focuses on copper as the material, and fire as the painting technique. When implementing the fire on the copper, the colors produced are both magical and varied. Control of the colors is achieved by using a lathe; the fire is directed at one point, while the object itself rotates at a specific speed, forming a ring of color on the copper piece.
